Patient and personnel comfort

Although overall  acne grading can be quick, taking 30-60 seconds, counting of individual lesions may take ten minutes in a patient with severe acne assessed by a relatively  new operator.  Thus the patient  must  be seated comfortably and the doctor-patient distance such that  neither the  doctor or patient develops  neck- or backache; otherwise fatigue will develop. Patients who are undergoing photography must be correctly positioned so as to achieve reproducible pictures and thus must be sitting at ease.

It  is unlikely  that one assessment technique will be universally acceptable but it is hoped that this chapter will help those colleagues who are interested in acne assessment.
