Postinflammatory pigmentation is a nonspecific feature of inflammation observed primarily in coloured skins . It does, however, contribute considerably to the patient's  disfigurement and treatment should be instituted early to minimize this. Occasionally, postinflammatory pigmentation is seen in Caucasian patients. The pigmentation can take up to eighteen months to fade.
