Intralesional corticosteroids

Cysts can be treated either by intralesional triamcinolone84'85 or cryotherapy. Inflammatory nodules injected with corticosteroids show marked improvement within forty-eight  hours . Triamcinolone  acetonide  at a  dose of 2.5mg/ml  is commonly administered  using a 1 ml syringe with a 30-gauge needle. The total amount of medication injected into an individual lesion ranges from 0.025 to 0.1ml. The  clinician should  attempt to  deliver the active medication directly into the middle of the inflammatory lesion,  causing  slight  distension.

Medication that is placed too superficially or deeply may result in atrophy.  Drainage  often follows the injection of corticosteroid medications, which is a desirable sequela.
